As I said in my last post, Karen from Empty Nest Expat was visiting us on her way to try again with Prague. What did we get up to though after Saturday?
On Sunday we went to the Museum of London. I haven’t been there in a while and Michael hadn’t been there yet so we decided to opt for that. It seemed to have gone down well and everyone enjoyed it. From there we walked to St Paul’s Cathedral where we caught the last part of the service and then walked down Fleet Street looking for somewhere to eat. We wanted to try Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, but it had stopped serving food, so we walked further down till we found a place: Ye Olde Cock Tavern.
We entered and the pub looked quite empty, save a few people watching a football game: apparently they normally do not open on a Sunday, but where open as they had a function later on in the day. So we got the full attention of the manager and server which was great! I got a steak and ale pie, Michael got sausages and mash and Karen got fish and chips. It was a great meal in a very relaxed atmosphere with attentive staff…weee! From there we then walked home where we just relaxed.
Monday Karen went out exploring as Michael and I had work/uni to do. We cooked lasagna before she arrived – mmm!
Karen’s last full day was yesterday. We had received tickets from SeeFilmFirst for the film The Blind Side by Sandra Bullock. Before the film we grabbed some food from the Australian pub Walkabout just outside the O2 centre. Michael and I shared a platter which contained kangaroo meat – my first time trying it!
But what about the movie?
I must admit that I really really liked it (which is not that common with me :P). Karen had already watched it as it was released in November in the US, but it still hasn’t been released in the UK. It is a very inspiring film about how things can change with a bit of luck and a lot of work. It showed that people who do good do still exist, and people who work hard to succeed exist as well. A must see for everyone!
From the film we then walked home for some fresh air.
Karen left this afternoon to Paris on her way to Prague – Good luck for her experience!
