A weekend in Cambridge…and more cycling!

Over a year ago Michael and I had met up in Cambridge and had spent one night couchsurfing there with Lou and Alex. We have remained in contact with them and last weekend Michael and I returned back to Cambridge to visit them again, seeing as so far it has always been them coming down to London to visit us!

And as indicated in the title…the weekend involved even more cycling! Lou and Alex had a couple of extra bikes so we spent the weekend mostly cycling in Cambridge and surrounding countryside.

We arrived in Cambridge Saturday late morning. First up on the plans was a visit to the town centre for them to run some chores and for us to see it again. From there it was then on to the countryside. We cycled along the river to Fen Ditton, where we stopped for some food and a well deserved nap on the riverbanks.

Then it was onwards and forwards to Waterbeach to another riverside pub for afternoon strawberries and cream. On the way there I very brightly went through a bush while cycling and emerged like I’ve been in a war or something with scratches all over.

By now it was getting late, and I was getting tired so it was off back home, where they had prepared a barbeque for us – weee. Eva, a friend of theirs, and her sister Flora then joined us for dessert for a bit of a chat and relaxation.

Sunday was then a day spent with Lou, Alex, Eva and Flora. First up was punting on the river. Fortunately no one got to swim in the river, so we had a pleasant time going around the backs.

After a short picnic on the riverside we then went off to The Empress (the pub has pigs and rabbits running around – cool!) for one last drink before returning back home.

A great trip in gorgeous countryside and some good fresh air. Thanks Lou, Alex, Eva and Flora!
